As we approach the warmer summer months, we would like to remind all families about the importance of staying safe around open water and at the coast. We have shared a water safety leaflet from the Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service, which highlights the dangers associated with rivers, canals, lakes and beaches, including cold water shock, hidden currents, deep water, mud and quicksand.
We encourage all parents and carers to take a few moments to read through the guidance with their child. Understanding the risks and knowing what to do in an emergency can help keep everyone safe this summer.
Please take particular note of the key safety messages:
- Avoid swimming in rivers, canals and other open water locations.
- Follow beach safety advice and always swim between lifeguard flags where available.
- Remember the “Phone, Float, Throw” advice if you see someone in difficulty in the water.
- In an emergency, call 999 and ask for the appropriate emergency service.
Thank you for your support in helping to keep our young people safe.
