New Heights Key Stage 3 | 6 – 10 December 2021
Sport and fitness is an important part of so many of our lives – it has the power to bring people together, and to improve our mental and physical health. The English Premier League established a three-year initiative with a renowned gay rights charity and campaign group, Stonewall, to highlight the work that Premier League clubs have been involved in to promote acceptance among local communities of the LGBTQ+ movement.
Recognition that “football brings people together” has been adopted to promote equality and diversity and clubs have access to resources, developed by the League and Stonewall which are distributed to coaches, teachers and youth leaders in order to promote positive attitudes towards the LGBTQ+ community. The staff and Students at New Heights KS3 have actively been involved in supporting this movement and highlighting equality, increasing awareness and changing the hearts and minds in our school towards the LGBTQ+ community.

The school sourced rainbow lanyards and pin badges for staff to wear in support of the campaign and to initiate informative conversations with our students to raise awareness and understanding. The PE department leads a week-long Dodgeball Form competition with all students and staff participating in a fair and inclusive atmosphere. This culminated in a competitive Dodgeball final with Class 5 taking out of the tournament in a hard-fought victory against Class 6.
The winning team received official Stonewall Rainbow Laces merchandise as a prize for their efforts.
