About Skills-Builder at New Heights Key Stage 3

How do bridges stay up? What makes a building safe – or striking?

In this subject, you won’t just learn about construction, you’ll experience it.

Through hands-on, project-based learning, you’ll explore how structures are designed and built, from the ground up. You’ll develop essential skills like problem-solving, teamwork and creative thinking, all while applying key STEM concepts in real-world contexts.

From physics and geometry to materials science and design thinking, this course gives you the tools to understand how the built environment works – and the chance to create your own. It’s not just about following instructions; it’s about exploring ideas, testing your thinking, and learning through doing.

Whether you’re drawn to architecture, engineering, or simply enjoy building and designing things, this subject gives you a strong foundation – literally and figuratively.

At New Heights Key Stage 3, we recognise the importance of providing our students with the opportunity to develop a range of practical skills, working with traditional hand tools and electrical tools. Skills-builder offers a unique opportunity for students to  foster their creativity and practical problem-solving. Our Key Stage 3 program aims to build students’ confidence, resilience and capabilities in these areas.
