Head of School’s Message

As Head of School, I am delighted to welcome you to New Heights Key Stage 4.

New Heights Key Stage 4 was created to ensure that students who have not been meeting their potential in a mainstream setting, have another chance of being successful in education.

We equip students with academic qualifications and give them a wide range of experiences with local and national employers.

At New Heights Key Stage 4 we cater for a small cohort of approximately 35 year 10 students and 35 year 11 students, this allows us to focus on our academic qualifications and ensure that our students make good progress.

All students at New Heights Key Stage 4 will study: English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, and dual-award Science.

This will give students five GCSE examination grades and allow them to access higher education in their future if that is the path they wish to follow.

We recognise that employers are looking for academic qualifications, but also the skills that will allow a student to be successful in their workplace, such as communication, adaptability, resilience, creativity, leadership and problem-solving skills.

We will develop students’ competencies and record their progress through ‘The Prince’s Trust Level 2 diploma in Personal Development and Employability Skills’. This qualification will allow students to evidence the array of experiences and accomplishments that they have gained working across our range of business partners.

We do not treat these aspects as separate, but ensure that the employer engagement activities contextualise the academic studies and are woven through the curriculum as a constant theme.

At New Heights Key Stage 4 we believe we stand out from other providers due to the range of work-based learning students will access during their time with us.
