Drop Everything and Read Liverpool

This term, New Heights School – Fazakerley has taken part in DEAR Liverpool… DROP EVERYTHING AND READ!

With the aim to get students motivated to read, the school has been littered with book recommendations.

Each day, students and staff have been instructed to “Drop EVERYTHING and Read!” for 10 minutes.

Some classes were read to by their teacher, some students read independently and some even read together.

It certainly has brought some spontaneity to the daily routine and provides a structured time for students to pick up a book and read for pleasure.

It has also provided an opportunity for students to bond with their teachers and peers as they enjoyed a story or discussed a text together.

Well done to Class 2, who participated in DEAR the most during the first week!

We have now incorporated Drop Everything and Read into our daily school routine and as a result; more students are reading throughout the day and staff are including more reading activities and resources in their lessons.

Going forward, our mission is for every student in our school to look forward to their daily reading time and to instil a love of reading throughout the school community.
