Autism in School – a Pupil Voice Project

The National 'Autism in Schools' Project.

Liverpool City Council, in partnership with the Liverpool Parent Carer Forum and Alder Hey, has launched an innovative initiative centred on autistic young people throughout the city as part of the National ‘Autism in Schools’ Project. The project aims to empower school pupils with autism to share their perspectives and experiences with their teachers, thereby improving understanding and awareness of autism within educational environments.

This person-centred approach not only promotes inclusion within Liverpool’s schools but also helps teachers to gain a better understanding of the challenges faced by students, allowing for the implementation of suitable adjustments.

Pupil Voice Project

As a vital component of the initiative, the Council has collaborated with a remarkable group of autistic young people from various schools across Liverpool to produce a video that highlights their experiences as autistic students in mainstream secondary schools. This video will act as an educational resource for staff and peers in schools and health services throughout Merseyside.
